This study explored the relative contributions of social desirability attit
udes, sex, and affective and cognitive empathy to self-reported multicultur
al counseling competence. Using the Knowledge and Awareness subscales of th
e Multicultural Counseling Knowledge and Awareness Scale as criterion varia
bles, two 3-step forced entry multiple regression analyses revealed that bo
th sex and affective and cognitive empathy were significant predictors of s
elf-reported multicultural counseling competence. Implications of the findi
ngs are discussed.
