Abstract
The authors present, what they believe to be, the first femtosecond Yb:YCOB laser, pumped by a low-power, narrow-stripe laser diode. To facilitate mod elocking, high-energy oxygen ion implantation of the saturable absorber is employed. 210fs pulse generation at 16mW average output power for 140mW inc ident pump power is reported.
