The ALEP methodology was utilised for the management of the Basilicata Regi
on energy system. Its approach is based on a comprehensive description of t
he territory including social and economical characteristics, land use, and
energy, materials and pollutants flow from anthropogenic activities. In th
is framework, the system analysts was supported by several tools, and a Reg
ional Geographical Information System was set up to allow the users an effe
ctive management of data and models in the preliminary analysis and in the
operative phase.
