One case of a thirty-one year old female with a leiomyoma of the urinary bl
adder is presented. The intravesical tumor measured 3 x 4 x 5 cm and grew w
ithout causing any clinical symptoms. The urologists performed various radi
ologic procedures and cystoscopy. Under the diagnosis of uterine fibroid th
e patient was referred to the gynaecologist for subsequent surgery. Vaginal
ultrasound already questioned previous diagnosis. Laparotomy revealed a tu
mor originating from the bladder. The tumor was enucleated from the bladder
wall after advertent opening of the bladder. The patient received transien
t prophylactic bilateral ureteral stents and recovered quickly without intr
a- or postoperative complications. Leiomyoma of the urinary bladder is a ra
re entity but still should be considered for differential diagnosis as a tu
mor of nonuterine origin.
