U. Machida et al., Subacute spinal cord infarction due to zygomycotic thrombosis in a patientwith myelodysplastic syndrome, HAEMATOLOG, 85(9), 2000, pp. 1004-1006
A 58-year old man with myelodysplastic syndrome developed subacute-onset my
elopathy, which did not respond to local irradiation. He finally died of pn
eumonia. The post-mortem examination revealed disseminated zygomycosis in t
he lung and the spinal vasculature, causing transverse spinal infarction. D
isseminated zygomycosis can be responsible for myelopathy in patients with
a hematologic malignancy.
