A DC-link voltage boosting circuit and its switching control to speed up th
e current tracking response of a switched reluctance motor (SRM) drive are
described. First, the governing equations of a typical SRM are formulated,
and a computer simulation environment based on Simulink and Powersys is est
ablished to facilitate the analysis and design of the SRM drive system. The
n an active DC-link voltage boosting circuit and its switching control sche
me are developed to reduce the effect of the back electromagnetic force (EM
F) on the current tracking response, particularly at high speeds. In additi
on, a robust current controller is designed to render current tracking resp
onse less sensitive to inductance variation which is dependent on rotor pos
ition. The performances of the proposed circuit and controller are demonstr
ated by simulation and experimental results.
