Bad. Stocker, Aromatic-dependent Salmonella as anti-bacterial vaccines and as presentersof heterologous antigens or of DNA encoding them, J BIOTECH, 83(1-2), 2000, pp. 45-50
The development of live bacterial vaccines is reviewed, in particular aroma
tic-dependent Salmonella, either for protection against the corresponding i
nfections (including typhoid fever) or as carrier-presenter of antigens of
unrelated pathogens or of DNA specifying them. Aromatic-dependent Salmonell
a live vaccines are also compared with BCG and Ty21a and the recent records
of exceptional situations are discussed in which aroA (deletion) strains o
f Salmonella typhimurium cause progressive disease in mice. (C) 2000 Elsevi
