Abstract
The second-order hyperpolarizability of two multi-adducts of fullerene, C-7 0 5-aminonitrile and C-70 5-dicyandiamide, was measured by using a femtosec ond time-resolved optical Kerr effect at 810 nm wavelength. The magnitude w as estimated to be as large as 4.1 x 10(-32) esu for C-70 5-aminonitrile an d 5.8 x 10(-32) esu for C-70 5-dicyandimide. This showed that the optical n onlinearity of C70 was strongly enhanced by forming a multi-addition charge -transfer complex.
