By linking together the functional sections of solids conveyance, melting a
nd melt conveyance into an overall model for the plasticizing extruder, it
is possible to achieve a good estimate of the operating behavior of an extr
uder both rapidly and with a relatively low computation outlay, without the
need for cost-intensive experiments or the evaluation of numerical calcula
tions, which take a great deal of time. This paper thus presents a means of
uniting the physico-mathematical models of the individual functional zones
via the pressure/throughput behavior in order to give a comprehensive mode
l for a smooth-bore plasticizing extruder.
