We have studied the electronic structures of ternary intermetallic compound
s CeNi2Al5 and CeNiAl4 on the basis of Ce 3d core level spectra by X-ray ph
otoelectron spectroscopy and high resolution Ce 4d --> 4f resonant; photoem
ission spectra. In the 4f photoemission spectra, fine structures near the F
ermi edge manifest that hybridization strength is considerably larger in Ce
NiAl4 than in CeNi2Al5. The electronic structures of these compounds are di
scussed in connection with those of Ce-Ni and Ce-Al intermetallic compounds
