Water hammer phenomena caused by a rapid Valve closure, that is, shock phen
omena in two-phase flows, are an important problem for the safety assessmen
t of a hypothetical LOCA. This paper presents the results of experimental a
nd analytical studies of the water hammer phenomena in a one-component two-
phase bubbly flow. In order to clarify the characteristics of water hammer
phenomena, experiments for a one-component two-phase flow of Freon R-113 we
re conducted and a numerical simulation of pressure transients was develope
d. An overall picture of the water hammer phenomena in a one-component two-
phase flow is presented and discussed.
