Abstract
We investigate the dispersion curves for some low older modes sustained by a rectangular core lightguide with one - fourth of the non-guiding region l oaded with metal. From the characteristic equation obtained by Goell's poin t matching method under weak guidance approximation, the dispersion curves are obtained and compared with a metal-clad lightguide having a square core cross-section. It is found that dispersion curves are almost similar in th e two cases.
