Abstract
[GRAPHICS] The synthesis of a series of novel acetylenic cyclophanes is described. X-r ay crystallographic analysis of the core structure revealed a twisted confo rmation with helical chirality. Preliminary results suggest that these cycl ophanes, with appropriate functionality, have the potential to act as uniqu e liquid crystalline materials.
