The electronic structure of the intermetallic compound MnPt3 has been studi
ed by angle-resolved ultraviolet photoemission spectroscopy on (001) and (1
11) surfaces of molecular-beam epitaxy-grown epitaxial films. The momentum
dependence of the energy of the valence band has been determined for the Ga
mma-X-M and Gamma-R-M planes assuming free-electron-like final states. For
different manganese to platinum concentrations, a simple relationship betwe
en the density-of-states at the Fermi energy and the magnetization of the f
ilms can be found, which is discussed in terms of existing band-structure c
alculations. The surface structures are investigated by reflecting high-ene
rgy electron diffraction and Auger electron spectroscopy.
