Jb. Spies et al., Uterine artery embolization of symptomatic leiomyomata: Observations on our initial experience at Georgetown University Medical Center, SEM INTERV, 17(3), 2000, pp. 255-261
Since the start of our uterine fibroid embolization (UFE) program at George
town University Medical Center, our approach to patient selection, procedur
e techniques, and postprocedure care has evolved. In this article, we summa
rize our current protocol for UFE and the rationale for our approach. Many
of the technical issues associated with UFE are as yet unsettled, and we ho
pe to stimulate others to present their approach. We describe some of the p
itfalls associated with measuring outcome for the procedure. We conclude wi
th our perspective on the remaining research issues that require further st
udy.
