SPECTROCHIMICA ACTA PART A-MOLECULAR AND BIOMOLECULAR SPECTROSCOPY
Novel Cu-I and Cu-II complexes derived from the tribochemistry reactions of
[Cu(GT)Cl-2(H2O)(2)(EtOH)]Cl.H2O with KBr, KI and CaI2, have been isolated
and characterized. The reactions of KI and CaI2 with [Cu(GT)Cl2H2O)(2)(EtO
H]Cl.H2O in the solid state are accompanied by colour change, reduction of
Cu-II to CUI and substitution of the chloride by iodide ions. Also, the tri
bochemistry reaction of KBr with the Cu-II-GT complex is accompanied by cha
nge in colour, substitution of chloride by bromide ions but no reduction ha
s been occurred. All the isolated solid complexes have been characterised b
y spectral (UV-vis, IR,H-1-NMR), magnetic and thermal measurements. The eff
ect of the variation of the ratio between alkali and/or alkaline earth meta
l halides (KI, KBr, and CaI2) and the Cu-II-GT complex has also been invest
igated. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
