The reaction of metal chlorides with salicylaldimine or 5-bromosalicylaldeh
yde in 1 : 2 molar ratio, yields [M(H2O)(2).(Sal-I)(2)] or [M(H2O)(2).(BrSa
l)(2)], respectively, [I]. Further reaction of [1] with 2,2'-bipyridylamine
in alcohol yields mixed-ligand complexes of the type [M(Sal-I)(2). Bipy.am
ine]. H2O or [M(BrSal)(2). Bipy.amine]. H2O, respectively. All of these com
plexes are soluble in ethanol and methanol. They were characterized by elem
ental analyses, magnetic measurements, infrared spectra, electronic spectra
, thermogravimetric analyses and antimicrobial activity.
