The crystal structure of triphenylmethane-piperidine-sulfenamide, C24H25NS
is described and compared with other sulfenamides and with other similar co
mpounds. This structure belongs to a type of divalent sulphur compound and
crystallized in the triclinic system, space group P1 with a= 8.924(2), b=12
.541(3), c=17.813(3) Angstrom, alpha =90.09(2), beta= 93.07(2) rho= 90.41(2
) degrees and Dr =1.20 g cm(-3) with Z=4. The S-N bond distance of 1.695(4)
Angstrom is shorter than a single S-N bond [1.74 Angstrom].
