Abstract
NOMAD is an experiment, searching for nu(mu(e)) --> nu(tau) oscillatio ns at the CERN SPS Wide-Band neutrino Beam. This search is performed v ia the appearance of nu(tau) in a predominantly nu(mu) beam of 24 GeV average energy. The experiment has been designed to allow a kinematica l selection of nu(tau), charged current interactions from the backgrou nd of nu(mu) and nu(e) charged and neutral current interactions and ha s maximum sensitivity in sin(2) 2 theta for Delta m(2) greater than 40 eV(2), and some sensitivity remains for Delta m(2) down to 1 eV(2) in the case of full mixing. NOMAD has taken data with the full detector since August 1995, and will pursue the oscillations search until the e nd of 1997. Charged and neutral current interactions of nu(mu), <(nu)o ver bar>(mu), nu(e) and <(nu)over bar>(e) have been identified and com parisons between data and Monte-Carlo are presented. The status of the nu(mu) --> nu(tau), oscillation search using various tau decay channe ls (tau --> mu, tau --> e, tau --> hadrons) is also reported.
