The geometrical multifractality of diffusion-limited aggregation (DLA) clus
ters is investigated by evaluating the D-q spectrum for q greater than or e
qual to 0 using the standard box-counting technique. Using the cluster poin
ts themselves as input to the algorithm, deviations were found from the exp
ected multifractal scaling. However on examining the geometric scaling prop
erties of the cluster perimeter, such deviations were found to be significa
ntly reduced, thus allowing a reliable D-q spectrum to be calculated. (C) 2
