Abstract
Vibrational spectroscopy has become increasingly important as a tool for un derstanding the mechanisms of photosystem II, phytochrome and terminal oxid ases. More general enzymatic or receptor systems have been studied, opening a new field of applications. Femtosecond infrared pump/probe studies of th e important amide-I band seem to provide a basis for its molecular and stru ctural interpretation.
