The paper presents mathematical models simulating the relative radioactivit
y of uranium isotopes in the Selenga discharge and in the water of Baikal.
The measured contemporary radioactivity of uranium isotopes relative to the
initial level is proposed as a means of dating pelagic sediments in Lake B
aikal by a special method. Preliminary estimates based on published measure
ment data agree with qualitative modeling results and with Arkhipov's time
scale of paleoclimates for Siberia.
