Abstract
The Mannich reaction is useful in the chemical industry because of its wide applicability to organic synthesis. This short review summarizes some rece nt work (1996-2000) on the synthesis of new armed and double-armed macrocyc lic ligands using the Mannich reaction, presents a study concerning side re action products, and discusses reaction mechanisms.
