An XC18 steel material in bcc structure was deformed in double shear with a
Hopkinson bar at a projectile speed of 97 m/s. With the help of micrograph
s, the local shear strain distributions have been examined. The EBSP techni
que was used to measure the orientation of the grains from which the orient
ation distribution function (ODF) was constructed. The crystallographic tex
tures are presented in form of ODF-sections. The measured textures were com
pared to the dynamic recrystallisation (DRX) textures observed in low carbo
n steels for shear deformation [1]. In this way, it was possible to conclud
e that DRX took place in the shear bands of this material. The texture vari
ations, which accompany the DRX process, have been successfully modelled wi
th the help of a self-consistent viscoplastic polycrystal model which was m
odified for the DRX process [2].
