Elemental powders of aluminium and quartz were undergone the loading by sph
erical converging stress waves. The layer-by-layer analysis of the structur
e and phase composition of the recovered compact was performed using X-ray
diffraction, optical and scanning electron microscopy. The occurrence of se
veral concentric zones containing the products of different chemical reacti
ons along with the initial components was revealed. Pure Si, Al2O3 compound
, and Al-Si alloy are the basic products of the chemical reactions.
