K. Nakamura et al., Asymmetric reduction of ketones by Geotrichum candidum in the presence of Amberlite (TM) XAD, a solid organic solvent, J CHEM S P1, (19), 2000, pp. 3205-3211
A hydrophobic polymer, Amberlite(TM) XAD, was used as material to control t
he stereochemical course of microbial reductions. In the presence of XAD, s
imple aliphatic and aromatic ketones were reduced to the corresponding (S)-
alcohols in excellent enantiomreric excess (ee) while low enantioselectivit
ies were observed in the absence of the polymer.
