Abstract
A hydrophobic polymer, Amberlite(TM) XAD, was used as material to control t he stereochemical course of microbial reductions. In the presence of XAD, s imple aliphatic and aromatic ketones were reduced to the corresponding (S)- alcohols in excellent enantiomreric excess (ee) while low enantioselectivit ies were observed in the absence of the polymer.
