Rf. Zhang et al., The effect of conformational dependent properties of radical cations on poly(N,N-dimethylaniline), MACRO CH P, 201(14), 2000, pp. 1774-1779
The properties of radical cation of poly(N,N-dimethylaniline) were investig
ated by electrochemical analysis, ESR, and UV-visible spectroscopy. Through
quantum-chemical calculations of model molecules using ab-initio methods,
we studied the conformation of the side group and main chain of poly(N,N-di
methylaniline). The obtained results showed that the strong absorption of t
his polymer at 587 nm was a charge transfer band based on the formation of
a radical cation. The environmental factors as temperature and viscosity of
the medium exhibit significant effects on the conformation of the main cha
in and side chain of the polymer, which greatly influences the stability of
the radical cation.
