The feasibility of ceramic fiber orientation under a high magnetic field is
explored. The study is carried out for short fibers exhibiting a very low
diamagnetic susceptibility. Equations to calculate the torque applied to th
e fibers and the time required for their orientation in a viscous fluid are
presented. A video controlled rotating cell device permits, in magnetic fi
elds up to 7 teslas, to measure the experimental orientation times and to c
ompare them with the calculated ones.
