Effect of paroxetine on thyroid hormone levels in severely depressed patients

There are very divergent appraisals of the effect of antidepressants on thy roid parameters and their possible correlation with the response. Whereas t here are numerous investigations of tricyclic antidepressants, so far, ther e are only limited data on the possible effect of serotonin-selective reupt ake inhibitors on neuroendocrine parameters. The present study showed a sig nificant reduction of 11.2% in thyroxine during treatment with 20 mg paroxe tine in 25 severely depressed patients. Copyright (C) 2000 S. Karger AG, Ba sel.
