Structural analyses of [Pd(C11H10N2O2)(2)]Cl-2 . 4H(2)O, (I), and [Au(
C11H10N2O2)Cl-2]Cl, (II), revealed that both metals are in square-plan
ar coordination environments. The Pd atom in (I) is coordinated equato
rially by four N-atom donors and has two long-range Pd ... O interacti
ons which lead to approximate pseudo-octahedral geometry. The Au compl
ex achieves st coordination number of four with two N and two Cl donor
s, however, a weak long-range intramolecular axial interaction account
s for the fifth coordination site to make the species pseudo-square py
ramidal.
