The 0(2)(+) resonance in the C-12 nucleus is treated on the basis of the al
pha + Be-8 two-cluster model. An equation for the function describing the r
elative motion of the clusters is derived by using the s-wave differential
Faddeev equations for the 3 alpha system and by relying on the simplest ver
sion of the resonating-group method. A phenomenological potential is taken
to simulate the pair aa interaction. A three-body potential binding three a
lpha particles together gives rise to a resonance in two-cluster alpha + Be
-8 scattering. The calculated resonance features and the calculated paramet
ers of the wave function of the system are compared with the results obtain
ed by other authors. (C) 2000 MAIK "Nauka/Interperiodica".
