Ic. Clelland et al., ALPHA-FORMYLPHENYLACETONITRILE IN THE SOLID-STATE AT 220 K, Acta crystallographica. Section C, Crystal structure communications, 53, 1997, pp. 807-809
The title compound, 3-hydroxy-2-phenylpropenonitrile (alpha-hydroxymet
hylene-alpha-phenylacetonitrile), C9H7NO, exists in the solid state as
the Z-enol tautomer, forming one-dimensional chains via hydrogen bond
ing between the enol OH group and the nitrile N atom.
