Abstract
Racemic planar chiral metallocenes bis(2-methoxyethylindenyl) yttrium and l anthanum tetrahydroborates (MeOCH2CH2C9H6)(2)Ln(mu(2)-H)(n)BH4-n (Ln = Y, n = 2 (1); Ln = La, n = 3, (2)) have been stereoselectively isolated in high yield by reaction of the corresponding lanthanocene chlorides with sodium borohydride in THF at room temperature. The two complexes have been fully c haracterized by elemental analyses, MS, H-1 NMR and IR spectra. The tetrahy droborate ion has been identified as slipped bidentate (mu(2)-H)(2)BH2 and tridentate (mu(2)-H)(3)BH ligands in 1 and 2, respectively. (C) 2000 Elsevi er Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
