The kinetics and the mechanism of formation of polynuclear hydroxo complexe
s in the Fe3+-NO3--H2O, Cr3+-NO3--H2O, Sc3+-NO3--H2O, Fe3+-Cr3+-NO3--H2O, a
nd Fe3+Sc3+-NO3--H2O systems were studied at various [OH-]/[Mn+] ratios. Th
e activation energies of formation of polynuclear hydroxo complexes were de
termined; at low [OH-]/[Mn+] values, the formation of hydroxo complexes was
shown to be more favorable. In the Fe3+-M3+-NO3--H2O systems, the predomin
ant process at the studied [OH-]/[Mn+] ratios was hydrolysis of Fe3+.
