The new reduction system, Pd(0)-SmI2-HMPA, was found to be highly effe
ctive for the facile generation of allylsamarium species from the corr
esponding allylic phosphates or acetates via a sequential oxidative ad
dition-electron transfer reaction, which enables a convenient regio- a
nd stereoselective synthesis of allylsilanes. The reaction can be cond
ucted under either kinetically or thermodynamically controlled conditi
ons.
