Abstract
In this paper, by using the Nagy-Foias-Foguel theory of decomposition of co ntinuous semigroups of contractions, we prove that the system of linear ela sticity is strongly stabilizable by a Dirichlet boundary feedback. We also give a concise proof of a theorem of Dafermos about the stability of thermo elasticity.
