Sb. Petersen et al., INJECTION FORGING OF TUBULAR MATERIALS - A WORKABILITY ANALYSIS, Journal of materials processing technology, 65(1-3), 1997, pp. 88-93
A comprehensive investigation of the double-sided injection forging of
tubular components has been performed in order to determine the worka
bility limits and identify the possible defects of the process. The wo
rk was performed using finite-element modelling in conjunction with me
tal experiments in aluminum. Workability failures during inject-ion fo
rging are classified and related to the velocity field and the distrib
ution of stress, strain and strain rate within the components. Correla
tion with the microscopic nature of the material during processing is
exploited by means of transmission electron microscopy. (C) 1997 Elsev
