Sh. Yang et al., RESEARCH AND APPLICATION OF PRECISION ROLL-FORGING TAPER-LEAF SPRING OF VEHICLE, Journal of materials processing technology, 65(1-3), 1997, pp. 268-271
Taper-leaf springs are important elastic parts in the suspension syste
m of many vehicles. Precision roll-forging is an advantaged technology
for processing taper-leaves. The present paper is concerned with expe
rimental research on the precision roll-forging of iso-width taper-lea
f vehicle springs. Equations to evaluate the width-extension and slip-
forward values that affect the workpiece quality and their correcting
curves have been determined experimentally, such equations having been
proven to be both practical and reliable in use. Satisfactory results
were obtained when the equations were applied to the design of the ro
ll-forging process and dies for forming different taper-leaf springs:
there was no flash on the parts, the dimensional accuracy was high and
the surface quality was excellent. Industrial applications have shown
that the precision roll-forging technique for taper-leaf springs can
increase the productivity, decrease production costs and investment in
equipment, and meet the requirements for product quality and properti
es being especially economical and suitable for the production of mass
ive taper-leaf springs. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science S.A.
