M. Centini et al., On the phase matching conditions in applications of one-dimensional photonic band gap structures for nonlinear frequency conversion, J OPT A-P A, 2(4), 2000, pp. 327-331
Band edge effects such as increased density of modes, large field enhanceme
nt, and low group velocity will provide highly efficient parametric interac
tion if the proper phase matching conditions are established in one-dimensi
onal photonic band gap (PBG) structures. The analysis of the dispersion pro
perties of one-dimensional PEG structure allows us to define the suitable p
hase matching conditions for parametric interaction when quadratic nonlinea
r materials constitute the layered geometry.
