Abstract
3D trapping of sodium clusters in a cold plasma environment is demonstrated for the first time. A modified quadrupole trap combined with a perpendicul ar, focused laser beam was used. The forces acting on a trapped particle in side the trap are discussed. The intensity of light scattered by a single t rapped cluster is measured for various polarization directions. Issues pert aining to the study of light scattered by a single cluster are discussed.
