The thermodynamic functions of southern taiga forest litter samples were de
termined by means of DSC. It was found that more thermostable compounds (at
least in the interval 50-150 degreesC) with higher absolute values of the
Gibbs function for intermolecular structures are formed in the course of fo
rest litter decomposition. The data obtained indicate the spontaneous natur
