Their ability to select wavelengths precisely in fiberoptic systems makes f iber Bragg gratings an invaluable and versatile optical communications comp onent. Applications include the precise control of semiconductor laser-emis sion wavelength, gain-flattening in erbium-doped fiber amplifiers, and disp ersion compensation for long-haul transmission.
