Abstract
The motion of one atomic electron in the field of a positive charged nucleu s and under the action of a strong laser field is investigated by semiclass ical methods. Our main interest is a systematic study of the energy transfe r from the laser field to the atomic electrons. Two simple models of the io nization of hydrogenlike atoms in the presence of strong laser fields are s tudied in detail focusing on the influence of nonlinearity on the electron dynamics.
