Abstract
A detailed mathematical analysis of the Berenger PML method for the el ectromagnetic equations is carried out on the PDE level, as well as fo r the semidiscrete and fully discrete formulations. It is shown that t he split set of equations is not strongly well-posed and that under ce rtain conditions its solutions may be inappropriate. (C) 1997 Academic Press.
