A. Speranza et al., Improving the time control of the Subboreal/Subatlantic transition in a Czech peat sequence by C-14 wiggle-matching, QUAT SCI R, 19(16), 2000, pp. 1589-1604
To achieve an optimal time-control for a late Subboreal to early Subatlanti
c peat sequence from Pancavska Louka in the Czech Republic, different strat
egies are applied to convert a series of radiocarbon dates into a calendar
time-scale. The methods of selection and preparation of the samples for AMS
C-14 dating are presented. The results of calibrating single radiocarbon d
ates are compared with a C-14 wiggle-match strategy. As the accumulation ra
te of the peat was not constant, the concentrations of arboreal pollen are
used to estimate the accumulation rate changes and to correct for these cha
nges. The resulting time-control represents the best solution for this peat
sequence with the methods currently available. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science L
