Beauty and pain (South Africa, current situation)

For decades an international pariah, South Africa is now welcoming thousand s of foreign tourists to its lush valleys, endless veldts, and pristine bea ches. Canadians, among others, whisper to each other on the plane that they had been dying to visit this beautiful country for years 'except of course ...' But millions of the reborn republic's citizens find that despite the c hanges they have little time for tourism. For many there has been improveme nt; for many more, not much has changed. At least, when it comes to politic s, they are no longer dying to be here.
