Abstract
The fundamental thermodynamic characteristics of aqueous electrolyte soluti ons and organic solutions which affect solvent extraction are summarized an d the influence of metal complexation and hydration on the distribution rat ios is discussed. The thermodynamics of extraction systems, including syner gistic systems, is reviewed. The influence of structural aspects of the com plexing extractant agents on these thermodynamic parameters is also reviewe d.
