S. Kadri et al., ANOREXIA IN ONE-SEA-WINTER ATLANTIC SALMON (SALMO-SALAR) DURING SUMMER, ASSOCIATED WITH SEXUAL-MATURATION, Aquaculture, 151(1-4), 1997, pp. 405-409
During a period of temperature increase from 8.8 to 11.2 degrees C fro
m May to August, maturing one-sea-winter Atlantic salmon showed decrea
sing appetite from early June, to little or no food intake by early Ju
ly. In contrast, non-maturing siblings increased food intake steadily
from early June throughout the period. The number of anorexic maturing
fish increased throughout the summer, suggesting that anorexia is dep
endent on an internal cue. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science B.V.
