Earliest and second-earliest memories were collected from 24 participants a
t three time points (ages 22, 33, and 43) over 22 and were examined for sta
bility and change in thematic material. Results indicate that early memorie
s are largely stable, but the nuances of the thematic portrayals reflect pe
rsonality change as well. Participants' biographical data are used to demon
strate the ways in which themes apparent in early memories are expressed in
the participants' lives.
