COLLOIDS AND SURFACES A-PHYSICOCHEMICAL AND ENGINEERING ASPECTS
The adsorption of surfactant (S) to cyclodextrin (CD) is studied using ion
selective electrodes. The data obtained indicate that inclusion complexes S
(CD) and S(CD)(2) had formed between cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB)
and cyclodextrin in aqueous environment. In addition to 1:1 complexes, sur
factants form 1.2 complexes with alpha and beta -cyclodextrin as well. Inve
stigation showed that the (K-1) for S(CD), that is the equilibrium constant
, is greater than (K-2) for S(CD)(2). Finally thermodynamic parameters for
the process (DeltaS(0), DeltaH(0), DeltaG(0)) have been calculated. (C) 200
